Porscha - Not feeling to well!

Porscha our Minature Pinscher who has been for adoption since December developed an intestinal infection last week and had to be hospitalized. She started with diarrhea for 4 days, 7 to 10 times a day of dark brown to black (indicating upper intestine bleeding). She was fasted for 24 hours, then started on rice and water, finally Medical gasto for 2 days. But nothing helped.

Day 4 she was then hospitalized at the emergency clinic (DMV):
  • X-Rays and an ultrasound were preformed and revealed her system was full of air and liquid poop.
  • She was check out by the vet and was running a bit of a temperature at 39.5 C
  • She was also very dehydrated so hospitalized for 24 hours on fluids (electrolytes + Calcium Phosphate)
She is now on an intestinal antibiotic, Metronidazole. But feeling much better! She will stay on the Medical gastro diet for a few more weeks and then should be good to be switched back to her normal diet.

***She is now recovered and doing just fine!

Porscha - Back in the rescue

Porscha one of our special needs pups was adopted 2 weeks ago but unfortunately we just got her back. She is a puppy mill survivor, and lost her ability to produce tears because of the neglectful conditions she was kept and bred in. Because of this when she was first rescued her eyes were leather dry, and she was unable to see at all. The first vet even recommended to take the eyes out. But the true survivor she is, with a little meds and tlc she pulled right around and even re-gained most of her vision. Her new sister was unable to accept another dog in the household which cause tension between the two dogs and made them both snappy. Despite our best efforts to make the pair hit it off which included 2 play dates before the adoption, where they got along great. Once Porscha was in her new friends territory things were not the same. Porscha also has trust issues with men, no fault of her own. Her only previous experience with humans was negative, and most likely a male. It takes just a little bit of time and tlc for a male to gain Porscha's trust, 2 weeks is in no way a reasonable time to expect her to gain trust. She was unable to connect to the male in the house, which was very discouraging and became frustrating. Porscha sensed the frustration, which made her even more terrified. She has and can connect to males, as she has shown in her foster home it simply is a matter of time. Porscha is now happy as can be back in the arms of her previous foster home, and is there to stay until we find a suitable family for the little one.

Porscha Adopted!

Porscha was rescued in November and after 4 months has now bee ADOPTED! She is a true survivor and was the vicitim of for profit breeding. Because of the negelctful conditions she was kept in and poor genetics Porscha has NO tear production. She arrived with leathery dry eyes, the docotors did not even belive they would be able to recover. But this little mircale worker, worked her maigic along with intensive eye treatments and a fantastic foster mom Porscha slowly regained her vision! She however will never have tear production, and for the rest of her life will always be on eye ointments. Even with that Porscha was able to find an EXCEPTIONAL home, with a new sister! She is one lucky pup and is now finally getting the second chance at life so many people have fought for her to have. Thank you to her beyond amazing foster mum Leesa, and the amazing adoptive home who looked past her special needs and what what we all saw, just Porshca a perfect little flawless pup.

New Arrival - Porscha

PORSCHA

Age: Young
Sex: Female
Breed: Min Pin
Size: Small

Porscha was a victim of for profit breeding – you know the face behind the cute puppy in the pet store. She grew up in a cage, un socialized, and neglected, never seeing outside, touching the ground, or even knowing what toys or play was. She was so neglected for her living situation that she was blind because of lack of tear production. Thankfully after a month of intensive eye treatments – she has now mostly regained her vision. She is now learning what life is all about, learning to walk in grass, just discovered her love for snow, figuring out what toys are, and learning how to make friends. Despite her lack of socialization she has blossomed into a social butterfly. She is pad trained, and crate trained. In fact she loves her crate! Porscha is a great pup who started life in an unfortunate situation and now just needs someone to open up their heart for her and help her continue to figure out what life is all about.
